The Chania City Bus (Astiko KTEL) is the backbone of public transport in the region. Operating 13 distinct routes, it efficiently connects the city centre with surrounding suburbs, key municipal hubs, and nearby coastal spots.
Important Transport Notice: The Chania City Bus operates strictly within the urban zone and to Souda Port—it does not serve Chania Airport (CHQ). For airport transfers and trips to distant beaches such as Elafonisi, Balos, and Falasarna, you must use the regional intercity buses (KTEL Chania–Rethymno) departing from the main bus station on Kydonias Street.

Where & How to Purchase Your Tickets
You can easily find paper tickets and travel passes across several points in the city:
- Main City Ticket Office: Located at 22 Hatzimichali Giannari Street (at 1866 Square), operating daily during the summer from 07:00 to 23:00. Staff can help you purchase single tickets, multi-pass cards, or top up your smart travel card.
- Souda Port Office: A dedicated ticket kiosk serves ferry passengers arriving at Souda Port.
- Automatic Vending Machines: Available at central bus stops and busy coastal stations for quick cash or card payments.

Official Mobile App Notice: While the official Chania City Bus app exists and provides real-time bus tracking and route maps, it currently does not support online ticket purchases. Make sure to secure physical tickets beforehand.

Summer Peak Hours: During peak summer months, buses heading to popular beaches, Souda Port, or university districts can get extremely crowded. Plan and allow extra commuting time.

You do not need to download the mobile app to check live bus arrival times. Most bus stops across Chania feature a round “next BUS” QR code sign mounted on the stop post.
