Navigating Chania: Your Guide to the Chania City Bus

The Chania City Bus (also known as Chania Urban Bus) is the backbone of public transport in the region, offering 13 routes that efficiently connect the city centre with the surrounding suburbs. These services connect the city centre with the surrounding suburbs through two fare zones: Zone A, which covers the urban core, and Zone B, which reaches more remote settlements.

Travellers should note that the Chania City Bus does not serve the airport; it operates only within the city and to Souda Port. If you are travelling to or from Chania International Airport (CHQ), you must use the KTEL Chania–Rethymno intercity buses. Furthermore, if you wish to visit nearby famous beaches beyond the city limits, you must head to the central KTEL bus station on Kydonias Street in the city centre. From this central bus station, KTEL operates dedicated coastal services for beachgoers.

Where to Purchase Your Tickets?

You can easily find bus tickets at several points across the city. The main ticket office at 22 Hatzimichali Giannari Street operates daily during the summer from 07:00 to 23:00. Staff there can help you purchase new tickets or top up your smart travel card. While a second ticket office serves passengers at Souda Port during ferry arrivals, you can also use automatic ticket machines, kiosks, and selected local shops.

Although drivers sell tickets on board, they charge a higher price for this convenience. We recommend visiting the official ticket offices for the widest variety of ticket types, especially since the official app currently lacks support for online purchases.

Please also note that while the official Chania City Bus app exists, it has not supported online ticket purchases for quite some time, so it's best to buy your ticket in advance.
