Wine Center of Crete – Wine tasting in Chania, Crete

Since 2013, Miden Agan Premium Wine Shop in the heart of Chania has been home to the Wine Center of Crete, a space created to showcase the richness of Cretan wines. The founders of Miden Agan created this unique venue with a clear goal: to bring attention to Crete’s native grape varieties and share the outstanding wines they produce. It has since evolved into a reference point for anyone wishing to discover the soul of Cretan wine.

Here, visitors can participate in carefully curated wine-tasting experiences spanning Cretan terroir, emphasising native grape varietals such as Vidiano, Liatiko, Kotsifali, Mandilari, and others. In addition to tastings, the Wine Center of Crete provides comprehensive and up-to-date information about all the organised open wineries across the island. We ended up in Crete unexpectedly when our cruise ship had to change course from Mykonos and we’re so glad it did! Maria was incredibly kind and welcoming. Although she initially wasn’t offering tastings, she graciously invited us to try some of her wines and spent time sharing her knowledge with us. It was a relaxed, authentic experience. So much more personal than a typical tour. The wines were delicious, and the warmth of the visit made it one of the most memorable parts of our trip. HIGHLY recommend stopping by if you're in the area!

No worth to do! Much more expensive than the value to do... Only expensive one is operated. I don't know why she serve cheap wine so much even though it is tasting... It would be better to serve better wine for tasting in accordance with the price. The host likes showing off.. Even though she gave me wrong info about blending of wine, she didn't fix it. She is also rude! She shouldn't have controlled customer. It was the Worst memory in Chania.

We walked into the store and were immediately greeted by the owner. We did not sign up for any tasting but she agreed to give us a mini tasting of four wines that took roughly an hour. She was very helpful and so knowledgeable of the wines of Crete. I highly recommend doing a wine tasting or buying a bottle from her!

Amazing tasting. We turned up on the day not knowing what to expect (but looking for good wine), Maria managed to fit us in a couple of hours later. The tasting was really informative, so much information, it really is as much a seminar as it is a tasting. We thought we were ok at tasting wines but Maria taught us a lot of techniques, especially for identifying bad wine. Very interesting information about historical Cretan grape varieties and the progress of Cretan wine makers. Decent measures for a tasting. Highly recommend booking ahead online. This goes beyond the usual wine tasting and it is really worthwhile. It's also a lovely air conditioned space for baking hot days!

Maria provided a fantastic tasting experience which included a lesson in proper tasting technique, four lovely Cretan wines and even a bit of local history! I will definitely be back next time I am in Crete!
