Miden Agan – Wine Shop & Delicatessen in Chania
About Miden Agan
Miden Agan is not just a wine shop in Chania—it’s an experience of taste, knowledge, and culture. Since 2001, it has become a landmark for Crete wine lovers, food enthusiasts, and beyond. It has been featured in international travel guides such as Lonely Planet, Rough Guide, and National Geographic, as well as global media like the BBC.
A Model Wine Cellar with Carefully Selected Labels
The shop offers a curated selection of wine labels from Crete and all over Greece, catering to every taste and budget. You’ll also find various grape-based spirits from Crete and mainland Greece, including tsikoudia (raki), rakomelo, and tsipouro.
A standout feature is the collection of Greek and European liqueurs and wine accessories for those who enjoy their wine under perfect conditions.
Flavours That Perfectly Pair with Wine
The Delicatessen section of Miden Agan offers carefully selected packaged Cretan and Greek products that complement the wine experience. Highlights include:
- Traditional pasta varieties such as skioufikta, carob pasta, risotto rice, orzo pasta, etc
- Cretan honey and herbs, all hygienically packaged
- Wild mushrooms and truffle oil
- Cretan cheeses, rusks, and breadsticks
- Extra virgin olive oil from small local producers
- Traditional candied fruit, Marmalades and artisan chocolates
All products meet strict quality standards and are chosen to pair beautifully with the cellar’s wines and spirits.
A Centre of Wine Tasting and Wine Culture
Miden Agan is much more than a shop. Since 2002, it has hosted wine tastings, conferences, and cultural events. It is also the founding base of the Chania Wine Club, which has played a key role in elevating the local wine culture.
As the initiator of the OinoKritika institution—active since 2007—it has helped bring the native varieties of the Cretan vineyard into the spotlight, uniquely connecting wine with tradition and culture.
Quality – Service – Delivery
With consistency, excellent customer service, and fair prices, Miden Agan remains a trusted name for both locals and visitors to Chania. The shop also offers wine shipping services to individuals and businesses upon request.

2 weeks agoWe stopped here while walking around and it is the cutest little wine store that we signed up for a wine tasting class. Extremely informative and super nice! Maria was wonderful and we enjoyed every second of it. Highly recommend stopping by if you want to to learn a lot about the island of Crete and various wines.

4 months agoBest wine tasting I have ever done. The owner was so informative, passionate and kind, and I learnt so much about Cretan wine. I thought it was one of the best activities I have ever done in Greece, and it was such a good value! The wines were absolutely incredible, and the cheese pairings went with the wine so well. I would love to come back with my mum 💖

2 months agoMy wife and I visited Miden Agan as part of a tour called "Flavors of Chania" in July 2025. The shop owner, who has personally helped to shape the modern Cretan wine industry, is immensely personable and a wealth of knowledge. She lovingly instructed our large group through the professional way to test and taste multiple wine varieties. Her selections were all locally made, tasted great, and were priced very, very reasonably. An overall fantastic experience. If you're visiting Crete, Mien Agan should be on your must-see list.
